The Leticia & Eduardo Foundation is proud to support the project of Beit Jabad Bahía Blanca, a Jewish community located in the southern part of Buenos Aires province, in a port city with 360,000 inhabitants and approximately 400 Jewish families.

In Bahía Blanca, 20% of the families face severe economic difficulties due to the country’s challenging situation. These families include workers with insufficient salaries, retirees with minimal pensions, and individuals facing serious health issues. Many cannot afford basic needs such as food, medications, medical treatments, or essential home repairs.

The community in Bahía Blanca is headed by Rabbi Shumi Freedman and his wife, who took over the Beit Chabad after the tragic passing of his father. Under their leadership, Beit Jabad Bahía has worked tirelessly to assist the most vulnerable families in the community. They provide financial aid, food, fresh fruits and vegetables, basic household items, and medical assistance to those in need.

Recently, with the help of the Leticia & Eduardo Azar Foundation, an innovative project has been launched in the region: the production and sale of kosher food. This service, which did not previously exist in the area, is not only generating employment but also strengthening Jewish life in a remote region. This project has been crucial in improving the quality of life for families and fostering Jewish identity in the region.

Over the past few years, the participation of the Jewish community in Bahía Blanca had decreased, with only 18% involvement, especially among the youth, due to a lack of educational and social frameworks for these age groups. Thanks to the Foundation’s support, a property was acquired to create a home and community center, which has had a significant positive impact on Jewish life in the city. This space has allowed for educational, social, and recreational activities, particularly for university students and families with children.

This center has been key to engaging dozens of young people and children in community life, strengthening their Jewish identity and sense of belonging. Today, thanks to the continuous support of the Foundation, Beit Jabad Bahía Blanca is a place of gathering and growth for the community.
